“Adopt a Tree” in Kenya

There is something special about watching a tiny seedling grow into a strong young tree. Over the past months, students in Mombasa have done exactly that through the “Adopt a Tree” program. With patience and care, they water, protect and nurture the seedlings, turning them into healthy young trees ready for the next stage of their journey.

More than 9000 trees are now ready for transplantation and adoption by students. Soon, each student will have the opportunity to take ownership of a tree, planting it and continuing to care for it as it grows. This simple act is helping young people build a lifelong connection with nature and understand the important role they can play in protecting our environment.

Two schools in Mombasa that are participating in the “Adopt a Tree” program have partnered with two schools in Greater Phoenix, Arizona: Loma Linda School and Gateway School . We are excited about this new partnership and the opportunities it presents for students and teachers to learn from one another, especially around climate change, environmental responsibility, and tree growing. We hope that this relationship will continue to grow and lead to more practical collaboration between the schools and communities involved.
